Abstract

This review presents actual data about the diagnostic methods and value of the arterial stiffness parameters changes by cardiovascular diseases (CVD), diabetes mellitus, diabetic cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy, in particular, including results of non-invasive arteriographic determination of pulse wave velocity, ambulatory aortic stiffness index, aortic and brachial augmentation indices. Results of the analysis indicate that increased arterial stiffness is considered as a non-invasive marker of subclinical atherosclerosis and may be integral indicator of cardiovascular risk, independent predictor of CVD and mortality, while normalization of increased vascular wall rigidity — an important criterion for the effectiveness of therapy.
