Abstract

Two clinical observations are presented dealing with surgical treatment of patients with primary hyperparathyroidism and giant adenomas of parathyroid glands: 5.8×3.5×1.5 cm weighting 16.5 gr, and 6.0×3.5×2.5 cm
weighting 40 gr. Both cases were characteristic of high levels of parathormone and total calcium: 586.7 pg/ml
and 3.12 mmol/L; 876 pg/ml and 3.55 mmol/L respectively. Both cases revealed late detection of parathyroid
gland adenomas and undue referral of patients to the surgeon-endocrinologist
