Abstract

Article contains results of study of BMD (bone mineral density), T-scores, Z-scores by the method of DXA
scan (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Findings show
that patients with DM type 1 have lower BMD in the central and peripheral skeleton in comparison with patients with DM type 2. Also, women with DM type 2 have lower BMD and T-scores than men. Levels of triglycerides and total cholesterol positively correlated with BMD in all skeletal sites in women with DM type 2. Uric
acid positively correlated with BMD in all sites of skeleton in men with DM type 2.
