Found
that in muscle tissue 24-month-old rats, there are an accumulation of ceramide, weight sphingomyelin
(SM) and the growth of the ratio of ceramide/SM compared to 3-month-old rats. The introduction
of imipramine old animal, like the introduction of the drug in the incubation medium of the extensor
digitorum longus, induces a decrease in the level of ceramide accumulation of SM and drops of the
ratio of ceramide/SM compared with the control, which may be due to the ability of the drug to
inhibit the activity of aSMase. Effect of imipramine in vitro accompanied by improved insulin-induced
glucose uptake by muscle tissue of old rats. It is suggested that aSMase does an important role in the
modulation of insulin signaling in target tissues in old age through the production of ceramide.
ER -
