Abstract

It was a comparative analysis of clinical and hormonal parameters in women with normal
menstrual cycles and cystic degenerate ovaries, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients and
healthy women. There were no significant differences in the content of testosterone, estradiol,
dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, 17-OH progesterone, prolactin and sex hormone binding globulin
in the blood serum of healthy women and women with cystic degenerate ovaries. Indicators of antimullerian hormone in patients with cystic degenerate ovaries were significantly higher than in healthy,
but lower than in patients with PCOS. As with PCOS levels of anti-mullerian hormone in women with
ovarian degenerate cystic positively correlated with ovarian volume, the number of antral follicles and
the level of luteinizing hormone. It is suggested that cystic degenerate ovaries are not normal, but
rather — a milder phenotype of PCOS.
