Abstract

It was investigated the dynamics of the cytotoxic activity of natural killer cells and metabolic activity of neutrophils in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer after radioiodine therapy depending on the age and the presence of distant metastases. It was found that in patients with distant metastases of young age (29,0 ± 1,1 years) the activity of natural killer cells is higher than in elderly patients (52,6 ± 1,2 years). In the early period after radioiodine therapy in patients with distant metastasis the activity of natural killer cells dropped more from baseline values in both age groups. After radioiodine therapy the activity of natural killer cells in patients without distant metastases does not change during the entire period of observation. In patients with distant metastases decrease in activity of natural killer cells lasts more than six months, indicating dysfunction. The activity of neutrophils in the early period after radioiodine therapy increased to a greater degree in young patients without distant metastases. In patients with differentiated thyroid cancer of young age influence of radioiodine therapy on the activity of natural killer cells and neutrophils depends on the presence of distant metastases.
